Encierra Winery
Encierra is a family owned boutique winery located in Peralillo between the coast and town of Santa Cruz in Colchagua Valley and has deep historical roots and a commitment to producing exceptional wines.
The Eyzaguirre Echenique family, pioneers in Chilean winemaking since 1765, established the winery after selling their stake in Los Vascos to the French Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). In 2000, María Ignacia Eyzaguirre, an agricultural engineer and oenologist, revitalized the family’s winemaking legacy by founding Encierra on the family’s ancestral land in Peralillo.
Encierra spans 177 hectares planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Mourvèdre, and Cabernet Franc. The winery employs a blend of traditional and modern techniques, utilizing small concrete vats and French oak barrels to craft wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.
Encierra has garnered recognition for its quality wines. Notably, Master of Wine Tim Atkin awarded one of their Carmenère wines 96 points and the Family Reserve 93 points, describing Encierra as producing “some of the hidden jewels of Colchagua Valley.”
Visitors to Encierra can immerse themselves in the winemaking process through guided tours of the vineyards, winery, and family chapel.
