Questions
What is the difference between Chile’s wine valleys?
Each valley has its own climate and wine style. Maipo, about 1 hour from Santiago, is known for Cabernet Sauvignon and historic estates such as Don Melchor. Casablanca, on the way to the coast, is cooler and known for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Colchagua is Chile’s red wine capital, with Carménère, red blends and the icon estates of Apalta such as Montes and Clos Apalta. Cachapoal is home to VIK in the Millahue Valley.
How far are the wine valleys from Santiago?
Maipo is about 1 hour from Santiago, Casablanca about 1 to 1.5 hours, and Colchagua and Cachapoal about 2.5 hours. All our tours are day trips with hotel pickup.
What is the best time to visit Chile’s wine regions?
Our tours run all year. Harvest, from March to April, is the most popular time to visit. Spring (September to November) and summer (December to February) bring green vineyards and warm, sunny days. Winter (June to August) is quieter and cooler, with snow on the Andes. In high season and on Chilean holidays, book at least 2 weeks ahead.
What is the best wine tour from Santiago?
For a shorter day, choose a Maipo wine tour. For icon wines and a full day in wine country, choose Colchagua. For crisp whites on the way to the coast, choose Casablanca.
How much does a wine tour from Santiago cost?
Our day tours start at $215 USD per person. Most tours cost between $245 and $545 USD per person, depending on the wineries, the tastings and whether lunch is included. Use the filters above to compare tours by price.
What wines will we taste?
In Maipo, Colchagua and Cachapoal you will taste mostly red wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Syrah and red blends. In Casablanca you will taste Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. ICON tours include each winery’s top wines.
Are the tours private?
Your transport is always private, just for your group. Winery tours and tastings are shared with other guests, unless the itinerary says “private”.
Is lunch included?
It depends on the tour. Some include lunch, some let you choose between lunch included and lunch paid directly at the restaurant, and others stop for a lunch you pay directly. Each tour shows which option applies.
Do you pick up outside Santiago?
Yes. Some tours pick up at your hotel in Santa Cruz, in Valparaíso, or at VIK Chile.
How far in advance should we book?
We recommend booking at least 2 weeks ahead, especially in high season and on Chilean holidays, when top wineries fill up fast. For last-minute dates, contact us and we will check availability.
