Planning Your Visit

The ideal time to visit is September through May. In September, travelers can enjoy Chile’s Independence Day celebrations (fondas) alongside vibrant spring weather. March and April are especially rewarding, as they coincide with the grape harvest—wineries are actively harvesting and crushing grapes, and wine festivals take place across the region.

We recommend avoiding June to August (winter), when the weather is colder and the vineyards are dormant. While travel is still possible in January and February, it’s also the peak of the local vacation season, making lodging, tours, and restaurants more competitive and often more crowded.

The drive from Santiago to Colchagua Valley takes approximately 2 – 2.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions and departure location.

By bus it takes approximately 3 hours and the buses depart from Terminal Alameda Sur bus terminal.

Yes — there are regular bus services from Santiago to Santa Cruz. The journey typically takes about 3 hours depending on traffic and whether the bus makes stops along the way.
• You’ll find tickets starting at around CLP 6,500–8,000 one‑way for standard services.
• Some of the bus operators include Andimar, TranSantin, Santa Cruz Express and others serving the route.
• Buses depart from Santiago’s Terminal Sur and arrive at Santa Cruz’s bus terminal.
• We recommend booking in advance, especially during busy periods, via recorrido.cl and kupos.cl (try to print out your ticket) and arrive at least 15 minutes before the departure time.

Colchagua Wine Tours offers full-day guided tours with transportation, making it easy to explore the region without a vehicle. Some hotels may also assist with transport arrangements, but be sure to have a confirmed reservation in advance.

Please note that most wineries in Colchagua require reservations and operate on fixed schedules for tours and tastings.

Yes, we can arrange private transportation from Santiago, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, or the San Antonio port with advance notice.

Please contact us in advance to coordinate the best option for your itinerary.

Most wineries are within 10–30 minutes of Santa Cruz.

Please note that most wineries have set tour hours, so you need to plan your schedule carefully to arrive on time for each visit.

We collaborate with leading wineries including Montes, Clos Apalta, VIK, Viu Manent, Neyen, and Ventisquero, as well as boutique estates like Encierra, Polkura and Maturana Wines. We also work with wineries in Casablanca and Maipo Valley.

Yes, all of our tours include private transportation. We offer fully private tours with exclusive winery visits and tastings, as well as semi-private options where you’ll share the winery experiences with other guests but still enjoy private transport throughout the day.

Yes, nearly all wineries in Chile require advance reservations. Most operate with limited staff and offer scheduled tours and tastings to ensure a quality experience.

We strongly recommend booking in advance, as walk-in visits are rarely accepted.

Most wineries in Chile do not operate traditional wine bars or offer wine by the glass. Instead, wine tastings are typically part of guided experiences and require advance reservations. It’s best to plan ahead to ensure availability.

While guests cannot choose individual wines at the tasting, most wineries offer different tasting levels—such as reserve wines, icon wines, or premium experiences. These options are selected in advance and can be tailored based on your preferences when booking.

We recommend comfortable clothing and shoes/sandals, as most wineries are in the countryside with gravel or sandy walkways—high heels are not advised. In summer, Chile’s sun can be intense, so bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. In contrast, winery cellars are often air-conditioned and cool, even in warm weather, so light layers are a good idea year-round.

While many wineries and hotels have English-speaking staff, Spanish is the primary language in Chile. Booking through us ensures smoother communication and tour guidance in English.

Tipping is customary in Chile. A 10% tip is standard in restaurants. At wineries, tips for guides are appreciated but not required—feel free to offer based on service quality.

We recommend booking with us at least four weeks in advance, especially during the high season (January to April), when availability at wineries is limited. Most wineries in Chile have small teams, fixed tour schedules, and require reservations in advance for tastings or visits. Early planning ensures you’ll have access to your preferred wineries and experiences.

No, we do not list our tours, transportation, or experiences on Viator, GetYourGuide, or other third-party travel sites. This is because we must first confirm availability directly with the wineries and restaurants before accepting a booking.

We’ve had many travelers contact us after last-minute cancellations from these platforms, and unfortunately, we were unable to assist due to winery availability constraints. To avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend booking directly through our website using the reservation form—ideally a few weeks in advance.

Our booking form helps us receive your request so we can check availability with the wineries and confirm that one of our drivers is available on your requested date. Since most wineries require advance reservations and have limited space, this step ensures we can create the best possible experience for your tour.

We require a non-refundable deposit to confirm your wine tour and secure reservations with the selected wineries and restaurants. Many wineries have strict no-refund policies and limited availability. The deposit allows us to manage bookings, cancellations, and schedule coordination on your behalf.

Cancellation and refund policies may vary depending on the wineries included in your itinerary, as some do not offer refunds. Colchagua Wine Tours requires a deposit to confirm all reservations, including any necessary cancellations or changes. We’ll provide full details of applicable policies at the time of booking to ensure clarity and transparency.
