Clos Apalta sits in the Apalta Valley of Colchagua and produces some of the most awarded wines in South America. Multiple vintages of its flagship Carmenère-led blend have earned a perfect 100 points from James Suckling, and the 2005 was named Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year, the first South American wine to take that title.

The winery itself is part of the draw. Its curved wooden exterior is built to resemble a wine barrel, and the gravity-flow design runs seven stories down into the hillside, with cellars reaching 25 metres below ground and a spiral staircase at its center.

For guests staying at Vik, Clos Apalta is about an hour and twenty minutes away in the Apalta Valley. On this private tour you’ll go inside for an in-depth winery visit and tasting, followed by a seasonal gourmet pairing lunch at the Clos Apalta Residence, the property’s Relais & Châteaux hotel above the vineyards.

Book before you arrive. In high season (October–March), the Apalta wineries have limited space and fill up well ahead. We strongly recommend reserving your tour before you check in at Vik, so your preferred date and winery are secured. Traveling with a travel agent? 9:00AM: Pick-up at VIK Chile Hotel

10:30AM: Clos Apalta Private Wine Tour and Tasting
— Step inside one of Chile’s most renowned estates for an exclusive 90-minute experience.
— Explore the dramatic 7-story gravity-flow winery, family cellar, and surrounding vineyards.
— Conclude with a guided tasting of 4 distinguished wines: Prelude 2022, Le Petit Clos 2021, Clos Apalta 2021, and the iconic Clos Apalta 2012.

12:30PM: Lunch at Clos Apalta Residence
— Savor an intimate, gourmet lunch at the Clos Apalta Residence, the estate’s Relais & Châteaux property perched on the hillside above the vineyards.
— Enjoy a set 3 course menu from locally sourced ingredients paired with prestigious grand vins.

2:30PM: Depart Colchagua Valley

4:00PM: Return to VIK Chile Hotel
